Design And Implementation Of Snmp-based Nms

Along with the rapid development and extensive application of the network technology, computer network has already come into various fields of the society and plays an important role .At the same time, the network's scale has become larger and larger and the sophistication and complexity of networks is growing, all these factors threaten the safety of network and improve the difficulty of network management. The network managers urgently demand a practical network management system to help them to manage the network and ensure the stabilization of network.Because of its easy implement, the SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) has become the actual practical network management standard. In this article, we design and implement a modular network management system. Accompany with the system, we provides some practical tools, such as automatic network topology discoverer and MIB browser, to help user to manage the network.This article consists of five chapters. The first chapter introduces the basic concept of network management, such as its model and history. The second chapter focus on the architecture of SNMP, it includes the SNMP management model, SMI, MIB, SNMP operations and so on. The third chapter talks about the implement of SNMP network management system. In this chapter, the SNMP framework, the security of SNMP and the extension of SNMP agent are introduced. In the forth chapter, the author deeply discuss the design and implement of a network management system which is based on SNMP. The content includes the architecture of the system we designed, the framework of each entity and the realization of each functional module. In the final part, we draw a conclusion of the development work.
