The USB was proposed by Intel, Compaq, Microsoft and other companies in 1994, which has many advantages such as high transmission speed, facility in connection and supporting of hot insert & plug. USB has been widely used in PC's peripheral equipments, and it has become one of the most important directions of video acquisition. So it's very important to develop an infrared video acquisition system based on USB. In this paper, both hardware and software designs of the system are presented. The whole system is composed of three parts: the image acquiring circuit, the USB interface circuit and the video display port. In the acquiring circuit, the FPGA is used to control the acquisition and storage of digital images. By adopting ISP 1581 and P89C61X2, the USB interface, which is based on DMA mode, is designed. DirectX technology is used in the display part. The implementation of the USB interface, the firmware programming and the DirectX technology is discussed in detail in the dissertation. And also the principle and PCB chart, the key codes and the flow diagrams are given. The system works well in the real time acquiring and display of the infrared video signal.
