H.323 System Voice Quality Assessment System

This paper develops an architecture of the evaluation of speech quality in VoIP systems based on ITU-T Recommendation H.323.We identify the perceptual speech quality as the key metric of the VoIP system,so we need to map the objective parameters to the subjective quality. We select the ITU-T P.862(perceptual evaluation of speech quality,PESQ) as our algorithm. But H.323 system is a network for packet-based voice, we can not use PESQ directly. We investigate the packetization of the speech signal in H.323 system, then give some methods that act as the interface between H.323 system and PESQ, and construct a complete architecture of the evaluation of speech quality in H.323 system. Finally, we give some applications of our architecture.
