The "newness" of "news" lies in the fact that it is a report of recent events, and that it strikes the readers as fresh and novel. News provides the readers with another means of acquiring aesthetic pleasure. Thus, aesthetic appealing is characteristic of news. The aesthetic attribute of news appears simple, which is determined by its pragmatic social function: news works as a commodity for the mass, a means of understanding the reality, and an ideological product. As a result, the aesthetic feature appears fairly simple: what is reported is an event instead of some abstract principles; a piece of news is a report of something that has really happened instead of a refined work of art. In one word, reading a piece of news is not exacting. The aesthetic attribute of news is simple but it is not stereotyped nevertheless. And it should not be identified as sensual pleasure either. It contains something more complex and profound, that is, the journalists' profound thoughts and aesthetic capacity. This kind of simple aesthetic manifests itself in the process of aesthetic creation. It demands that the journalist should hold a detached view of the events on which he is going to give a detailed report; that he should keep his curiosity about things and looking for novelty in what he has got familiar with; that he should present "the absence" by presenting "the presence" and strengthen the presentation of "the presence" through the rich-contented "absence"; and that by means of visualization he should present the readers with the most objective, vivid and lively images, expose them to the aesthetic appealing of news and make them acquire deep understanding of news under the pretence of superficial reading. As to news, "aesthetic reading" consists of the reporters' interpretation of the real world and the readers' appreciation of news. The former is "guilty reading," whereas the latter should be "symptomatic reading" which enables the readers to appreciate the aesthetic appealing of the world of news and the real world.
