The aim of image enhancement and restoration is to improve the quality of image, such as filtering noise, enhancing the definition of images, etc. Image enhancement does not take the cause of image quality-fall into account, and emphasize the interested part of image. Image segmentation technique is a key technique in Digital Image Processing. As a basis of recognising, analysing and understanding image, Image segmentation exact the interested characteristic including edge and region, etc. Although many methods of edge extraction and region segmentation had been given, no effective methods can appllied into all kinds of image. Therefore, the research of image segmentation is going deeply more and more, and became a research hot in image processing.Algorithms of image segmentation and edge detection are researched deeply after introducing the basic knowledge of Digital Image Processing in this paper.on this base,relative algorithms are contrasted and retrofitted to adapt to color images' character.To every improvement, versatility has been taken into account.These algorithms not only enhace color images' edge, but also bring about good effect to gray images. At last, it accounts for the generation of title, and summarizes works achieved, and the study direction in the near future is pointed out in the paper.Old algorithms and modified algorithms are fulfilled on Delphi. Differring from processing gray images, every pixel must be decomposed into red, green, and blue channel when color images being processed. A kind of color is resulted in after three channels being processed respectively. In order to avoid color variation (Generating different color in indigenous image), precautions have added in improvement algorithms.
