Image is one of the most important means for people to understand theworld clearly.Image enhancement refers to process and analysis for originalimage to improve the visual effect or fit for people or machine analyzing witha series of technology. Image enhancement is one of the basic method forimage preprocessing.The digital image is inevitably polluted by all kinds of noise withcollection and transmission process. The images edge,details,texture,andother important information often is submerged in all kinds of noise, soimage interference of is very severe. The most important aspects of imageenhancement research is remove image noise.Salt and pepper noise seriously effect the image quality. In the weaknoise condition,standard median filtering can remove salt-and-pepper noiseand keep the image edge details well,but it is not suitable for strongsalt-and-pepper noise. This paper further explore and research on all sortsof median filtering on the basis of median filtering.A adaptive median filteralgorithm which remove strong salt-and-pepper noise is proposed.Image segmentation is subdivided into child area or object. For thecomplicated background image, how we precisely segment for the interestedareas,it is an important aspect of the image enhancement study. This paperintroduces mathematical morphology, and the variable structure elements isproposed on the base of the study of the many structure elements morphologyand applied to complex image segmentation. The satisfactory results areobtained.The research background of the image salt-and-pepper noise suppressionare expounded on.Domestic and foreign research present situation areexplained. The purpose and the significance of the research are discussed.The difficulty of salt and pepper noise removal and the existing problems arepointed out. The classification of the image noise,all kinds of noisemathematical theory model and the general methods of the noise suppression be introduced. The evaluation methods of image quality are described.The main work and research results will be given as follows:Firstly,the standard median filtering and various improved medianfiltering methods are explored and studied. The adaptive median filteringalgorithms are proposed for the gray and color image with strong salt andpepper noise. The thought of algorithm and experimental steps are introduced.The satisfactory results are obtained with Matlab software simulation.Secondly,the variable structure elements is proposed on the base of thestudy of the many structure elements morphology and applied to compleximage segmentation.The satisfactory results with Matlab software simulationis obtained.Thirdly, the full text are summarized, and the future of image denoisingresearch and image segmentation was discussed.
