Currently, the rock art images as an important cultural heritage have a very important position in archaeological, historical and other research. On the one hand, after hundreds of years, rock art images often become blurred. On the other hand, the gray value of target images are very close to the gray value of background images, so the rock art images cannot be identified accurately with the arbitrary noise. Therefore, in order to achieve accurate identification, and recognition of rock information,the digital image processing technology is often used to save rock and extract features of the images, it also has a very important significance in China historical research.Rock art image edge information is the most important element, in order to extract it, firstly, utilizing Canny detection algorithm based on bilateral filtering and a combination of Canny detection algorithm detect image edge respectively and compare and analyze the rock processing results. By comparison results, for the images of obvious rock edge information, two improved algorithm can detect the rock edge very well, but for the images of weak rock edge information, canny algorithm can not deal with them effectively, it need to strengthen and then detecte them before they can get a more ideal edge detection.Secondly, dissertation studies the enhancement principle of Retinex image enhancement algorithm, mainly using its SSR, MSR and MSRCR algorithms enhance living image of the scene and the rock art image. Experimental results show that the enhancement of two images by SSR and MSR algorithms are very poor,but the MSRCR enhancement algorithm can enhance the living image of the scene better, the enhancement of rock images is not good. Because the serious loss of edge information of rock art images makes the extraction of the next rock image becomes more difficult, moreover, the edge of the information is very weak.Finally,dissertation enhances the rock art images of weak edge information and detects them by color image enhancement algorithm based on Color bilateral filtering. At the same time,it compares the results of this algorithm with the results of MSRCR image enhancement algorithms before detecteing them and the results of other algorithms, comparison shows that color image enhancement algorithm based on color bilateral filtering can enhance the contrast and the edge information of the rock art images, it also can filter out background noise of rock art images. So it is possible to extract the edge of rock art images accurately. Therefore, color image enhancement algorithm based on color bilateral filtering is a more reliable algorithm to enhance the image of rock.
