With the Gbit/s technology application in trunk network, the development of broadband access network is gaining popular. The Passive Optical Network based on Asynchronous Transfer Mode (APON) will be an ideal fiber access technique in 21st century because of its low cost and flexibility, which incorporates the support ability of ATM's multiple services and multiple bit ratios and the PON's transparent broadband transfer ability.At the end of 20th, the international and domestic optical communication field had initiated the research on APON as soon as ITU-T published and improved the relating recommendation of APON. Under the context Nanjing University of Science&Technology had undertaken at early time Jiangsu Province Hi-Tech Project Research and Development of Optical Network Terminals in Passive Optical Network System Based on Asynchronous Transfer Mode in 2001.This dissertation is the summing-up of the design of Path layen AAL and Higher layer in optical network terminal(ONT) of ATM-PON system. The content of this dissertation includes:Firstly, this dissertation illustrates the ATM technical characteristics and the ATM network layered model, analyzes the principles, structure and key technique of APON system based on G.983.1 recommendation, and then brings forward the layered designing scheme of ONT according to the functional request of ONT.Secondly, this dissertation makes researsh emphatically on the total design based on setting up general hardware platform and simplified design model of hardware according to 1.732 recommendation, and discusses the ATM chipset, the core processor, and the choice and realization of Higher layer services based on the design request, and then provides a high performance design according to particular conditions as follow: useing TMS320C6202 of TI company as the core processor, static Random-access memory (SRAM) as the system memory, and incorporating the most advanced microprocessor, high speed and large capacity memory, programmable logic device (FPGA) and performance software design to realize the full optimum of the system performance.The dissertation further discusses the realization of the total design, including the design of every functional model hardware circuit the method of solving high speed circuit transmit line effect and the design skill of system software, and complishes the software and hardware and debug of ONT Path laye^ AAL and Higher layer, and solves the difficulty of high speed circuit design and the real-time request of system software. The result of the total debug of ONT indicates the part's function is correct and the voice and data services run well.This dissertation is sponsored by Jiangsu Province Hi-Tech Project.
