Research and implementation of the application of IP QoS based on IXP2400 is being developed for the demand of new traffics in the new network environment. Recently it becomes research field of several intersectional branches such as the newest Intel IXA(Internet eXchange Architecture) and QoS technology. The research results in the paper shows that we propose the concept, means, technology and schema for realizing IP QoS through the implement of IP QoS based on IXP2400,and the advantage and advanced property are proposed in the application.These all are exposed in the implementation of IP QoS based on IXP2400.Firstly, the basic technology of QoS control in IP network is presented. Then new development in Integrated Service and Differentiated Service is given,and the technology of realizing IP QoS is analyzed. Finally we propose that the Differentiated Service is used in the application of IP QoS combining its advantage and extension.Intel Internet eXchange Architecture(Intel IXA) is the next generation network architecture proposed by Intel company.Intel IXP2400 is one of Intel IXA network processor.Combining the Intel Internet eXchange and the application of software architecture and hardware external interface in IXP2400, we expatiate them in the paper.The advantage of IXP2400 and the feasibility of realizing IP QoS is proposed.So it is the best choice to realize IP QoS of selecting IXP2400.The QoS classification is the basic technology to realizing QoS.The QoS classification based on IXP2400 is discussed deeply.We propose the new means of classification combining the current classification and particularity of IXP2400.And we point out that we can recur to the mapping of QoS in the end system for reducing the burthen in the edge router.That means that we can educe a symbol in the end system,then transmit the symbol to the edge router to help its classification.At the same time,we also expatiate the arithmetic that are needed in the system.And the advantage of these arithmetic is analyzed in the paper.Finially,on the bases of IXP2400 and IP QoS,we propose the software architecture and hardware architecture of the application of IP QoS.In the paper,we put forward the particular design for every module in software architecture.These modules include packet reassemble,classification,traffic adjust, queue scheduler,forward,etc. Simultaneity based on the implementation,the resource of the external SRAM and DRAM is planed.
