Nowadays, networks are widely used in control systems. There're many new problems in such distributed control systems. Several solutions and the disadvantages of them are discussed in this thesis. Then the "software device technology"' is raised up. This technology means that every real device is controlled by a software device which abides by the software bus specification. The control software just needs to control the software devices which can be seen from everywhere in the system. That is to say, once the software devices are implemented, the development of the control system is to assemble them. So the development will be much easier and the system will be very easy to extend.The process and method of implementing the software device is the most important part of this thesis. First of all, we need to analyze and design the software devices according with the real devices using the UML (unified modeling language). Then we should translate the models into interfaces defined using IDL (Interface Definition Language). After that, we can use an object oriented programming language to implement .ne software devices. Only following this process, could the software devices be implemented and be used in the control network.After the software devices are implemented, the control system can be developed based on the software bus and software devices. The process of this development is summarized in this thesis. A small control system based on software devices is introduced in the thesis.After the research of software device technology, we can come to the conclusion that the software device technology is very suitable for control network system. It will improve the reusability, portability, and interoperability of such distributed, heterogeneous systems.
