It is the hotspot to study the application of fractal theory in the field of radar technology. The technique of simulating fractal model, estimating the fractal dimension, simulating rough surface and applying fractal theory to signal detection was studied. The studies lie in the following aspects:1 , The fractional brownian motion(fbm) signal was simulated with it's basic characteristics. The methods of estimating the fractal dimension were also studied and compared, and the estimating error was analyzed. 2, The two-dimensional band-limited fractal function was presented for modeling the rough surface, and the dispersion characteristic of the surface was also studied with Kirchoff approximate treatment.3 , The application of the fractal dimension in the signal detection field was studied. Based on the multifractal theory, the multifractal dimensions which can reflect the local signal characteristic was analyzed. A lot of simulating experiments were made with measured data, and the simulated results show that the method of signal detection with the multifractal dimensions was feasible and reliable.
