This dissertation researches how to use computer to emulate the nature and completes the modeling of the real terrain. Besides this, the dissertation developed a visual simulation system based Delphi and OpenGL.The three aspect of the dissertation was discussed: fractal Brownian motion, 3D modeling and visual environment. First, the dissertation discussed the principle and property of the fractal Brownian motion, proved the feasibility of using it and indicated the possibility of using many dimensions to emulate the terrain. Secondly, the dissertation described the expression method of 3D geometry, arithmetic and building of 3D modeling. This part also analyzed the factors of graphics, pointed out its influence to the graphics. Thirdly, the dissertation gave the details of how to build 3D terrain. This part presented two new methods of terrain building: render and texture. These two methods will make the graphic have more reality. The compare of the two methods was given in the dissertation, and the function program was described, too.At the end of this dissertation, an instance of visual simulation was given. Nature Visual Simulation System was built firstly based Delphi and OpenGL. The most technologies of this system, which had been discussed before, were applied in this system.
