Library Page Design Study

Giving an overall review on the page number designing of the books, this thesis has investigated into this detailed part that has been neglected in the theoretical research on the plane designing. Part one begins the discussion from the natural numbers, summing up the ways in which the numbers are counted. This part has also distinguished the concepts of "leave" and "page", and discussed the four functions of the page number: counting, searching, marking and decorating. Part two analyses the differences of the page number designing between the eastern and western countries in respect in the historical respect, and thus finds out the foundations of the traditional page number designing. Part three studies the characteristics of the modern page number designing, including the symbolizing, constituting, function and systemizing, and further summarizes the ways of the page number designing. Part four compares the designing styles of the old times and the resent days, and divides the page number designing into three groups: serious, casual and stylized. Part five points out the values of the page number designing studies in the plane designing. With the development of the technology, the page number designing has gradually gone beyond the traditional limit and got free from the minor role.
