Since the last century, the mass media has had a great influence on world and the mankind. It made people sense and experience the world in a new way and even changed people's life. Many new problems from media can't be explained according to the previous researchers' line of experimentalism and positivism. The times urgently needs researchers to observe again the mass media from a new angle.On the base of experiencing the modern context, this paper attempts to show the rich content of the mass media from a new angle. Besides introduction and conclusion, this paper includes three parts which expound the theme from three angles: power, text and consumption.The introduction briefly states the significance and the present situation of the mass media's research. It puts forward the three important angles of the research of media.Part I reveals that the mass media has existed as a kind of power. It more deeply analyses how media affects the ideology to create and to be agreed upon. The media culture is both governor and rebeller. It is the field in which meanings struggle and compromise. It makes it possible for all classes to struggle for the right of speech.Part II mainly expounds that the mass media is a text to be explained. Creating and realizing the mass media is the process in which propagators and the audience cooperate. Only in a way of humanism, observing the mass media suspending in the network of meaning, can we know how its meaning was born clearly and then have a more profound insight into the contradiction and complexity of the media culture.Part III studies the connection between the mass media and consumption in consumer-society. As the industry in the market economy, the mass media is ideologized inevitably by consumption. Thus it becomes an absurd contradiction. It pushes forward the social material civilization. At the same time, it has a negative influence on the spirit of human beings.The conclusion summarizes the positive significance of paying close attention to and study media from three angles--power, text and consumption.
