In order to improve the efficiency of progressive die design, this dissertation offers the research on the development of PPDCS(CAD system for precision progressive die) based on SolidWorks. It focuses on the characteristics of process design and the realization of interactive design, and also covers feature-based product modeling and top-down structure designing.In chapter 1, the background and the target of this dissertation are introduced. And the actuality, tendency and main deficiency of progressive die CAD system are summed up. At the end, the key technology and structure of this thesis are interpreted.In chapter 2, the characteristics of progressive die and die design are firstly presented. Based on the analysis of two means for progressive die CAD development, the author chooses second-develop style to build PPDCS. Then the specialty and API of SolidWorks are presented. With COM technology, the framework of PPDCS is constructed.Chapter 3 is dedicated in constructing the information model of parts. Feature-based modeling is adopted on the base of analysis for both geometrical modeling and feature-based modeling. Combining the modeling of products in SolidWorks, an improved modeling method is presented.In chapter 4, the interactive process design flow of PPDCS is studied based on the specialty of IC lead frame. The whole course of process design is separated into three parts as blank layout, characteristics checking and strip layout. Then the content and realization of each part is presented in detail. As strip layout being the nodus of progressive die design, we collect the rules from experiences and present an optimizing algorithm.In chapter 5, the means of structure design and part design are researched on. Then the realization of structure design using top-down design is presented. With information of separated loops, the efficient part design has been achieved.Chapter 6, the steps and result of process design of a part example are presented as the test to PPDCS. At the same time, the data flow in the system is studied and the handling of these data is introduced.Chapter 7 is the overall summary of this dissertation. In this chapter, the achievements and some aspects for future work are presented.
