Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) is a new research field for us. It' s only more than 10 years from CSCW s formation. But more and more interests are put on it by the researchers all over the world, with the dramatic development of Internet. Many products of it which appear continually change computers which solve problems purely to the basic information facilities which help the people' s intercommunion and cooperation. Those research and developing works of CSCW will affect the human works, studies and lives in the future deeply.CSCW is a cross science which combines wide fields such as computer network communication, parallel and distributed process, database, multimedia, AI and so on. Moreover it even concerns congnitive science, behavior science, psychology, art and philosophy, etc. CSCW developed rapidly in the past years with the development and application of multimedia network technology. More and more applications of CSCW appear in many fields of the society. Facing with the increasing demands for CSCW applications, we have developed a new CSCW system according to the multimedia network environment of our country. During the design and implementation of our system, we made many useful exploration and practice about the CSCW in the multimedia network. We made some creative design and implementation on some critical technolodge of CSCW such as multimedia communication, document sharing, local data storage, distributed computation, combination of cooperation tools and so on. We gained some appreciable achievement. In this paper, it' s described in detail how we design and implement our CSCW system based on the multimedia network. Multimedia network and CSCW are described briefly in chapter one. Chapter two introduces the latest conditions and development of CSCW and multimedia network. In chapter three we describe the total design of our system. The detailed design and implementation of client and servers of our system are described in chapter four and chapter five respectively. Chapter six introduces the standard network protocol and their implementation in our system. As one of CSCW critical technolodge, the project of resolving how to pass the NAT/f irewall during the multimedia communication is discussed in chapter seven. In chapter eight, another critical technolodge -the project of local data storage- is discussed.Chapter nine introduces security design for our system. Finally, we point out what we should do in the near future to optimize our system in chapter ten.
