The latest developments in internet and electronic publication change the circumstances in which traditional library information services exist. It makes libraries become nodes of global network. The libraries are heading toward electronization, virtualization, digitization. The developments in the internet bring more space to library and make interlibrary cooperation and resource sharing more effective. We can be sure that in the new century the documentary information services will be based on high-speed information network. However, critical challenges are in the store for us with the continuing advances in computer, information and telecommunication technologies while conveniences are produced. In the networking environment, the construction of information resources will become more complicated. Since there exist various types of end users from various social strata, the pressure of information service for libraries will increase. Moreover, libraries must face competition from other information sources such as ICP. Therefore, library professional operations, management models and service modes must be prepared to undertake deep changes so that they can adapt to the needs of social development. In the background, it becomes important to research the development pattern of information services for libraries in the networking environments. My study in this paper is of importance in terms of both social proficiency and practical values. At present, there are many influential patterns of network information services. As the author, thinks, they can be divided into 3 models: (1) The NACSIS model which is sponsored by administrative funds;(2)The DIALOG model which provides service according to market needs;(3)The OCLC model which is nonprofit-making and cooperative. The paper goes further to make comparative study of the three models. Though they provide network information services, they differ greatly from one another. The NACSIS model falls short of predominance in services efficiency since it is not purely commercial and is subsidized by the government. The DIALOG model is affected by economic profits and its resource configuration is imperfect. To some extent, it even results in duplication of resource configuration or resource waste. Only the OCLC model puts stress on bibliographic information sharing and interlibrary loans. All the members in OCLC are very cooperative. So the action to join OCLC is initiative not planned. Therefore, the OCLC model (being nonprofit-making and cooperative) can be taken as an example. The paper further makes a case study about OCLC. It uses a set of data from different periods to explain the rapid development of OCLC. Then, OCLC service items are divided into 3 categories, namely, electronic reference services, cataloguing and technical services, resource sharing services. In addition, the features of OCLC information services are analyzed. It is these features that make OCLC successful. The highlights are as follows:Sticking to the idea of resource sharing spreads the influence of OCLC; Being nonprofit-making attracts more than 40102 libraries in 76 countries and territories to join the bibliographic utility, Keeping pace with technical and information services enhances the confidence of end users who select OCLC to retrieve information;Extending to global market indicates the ambition for internationalization. After the case study, we analyze the gap between Chinese documentary information services and international documentary information services. Firstly, it summarizes the practice of Chinese library documentary information services, introducing some local information services system ( i. e. Network library in Shanghai ,APTLIN in Beijing),CALIS system .Then ,we analyze existing problems through many facts. They are as follows. Backward information infrastructure enlarges the above gap. Engaging in information services on their own, lacking long-standing development strategy and low-level information services lose the confidence from end users. Low-quality...
