Microstrip antennas have been used in many applications in recent years due to their inherent advantage like lightweight, thin profile, flexible design and low cost. With the dev/elopment of microstrip antenna, except for their traditional applications people have new requirements, such as low-sidelobe antennas, active integrated antennas, monopulse-antennas etc. People require not only qualified antennas, but also more efficient design methods. In this thesis, some new schemes and ways to improve antenna performance have been proposed. All of them have been verified through the simulation, design and measurement. The main work includes:1. A 8×4 microstrip phased antenna array with central frequency of 5GHz has designed by using full wave analyzer IE3D in which the phase controller is PIN 0-π phase shifter. Some new concepts are used such as series-feed and equal-loss during this design. The result of measurement proves the correction of the design.2. A 16×16 monopulse antenna has been designed which includes a monopulse processor and 8×8 sub-arrays. Matching branches are added to the sub-array to enhance the bandwidth of the antenna. The measurements accord with the design purpose.3. An 1×18 low-sidelobe microstrip antenna array has been designed using IE3D. Excellent results has been achieved.4. A MEMS phase-shifter has been designed. The sample is in manufacturing.
