Technology of Real Time Walkthrough System in Virtual Architecture Environment is very promising in the fields of Computer Game Design, Architecture Design, Interior Decoration and Real Estate Development. Compared with the traditional plane pictures and computer animation, it can present both real time and interactive scene.At the very beginning some important theories on Virtual Reality Walkthrough and 3D Graphics are introduced in this paper. Furthermore, some basic techniques about the programming with OpenGL based on MFC are presented.There methods can be used in the accomplishment of Virtual Reality Walkthrough system. In this paper, we discuss all of them and accomplish two of them based on the programming with OpenGL:Firstly, we use the geometry based rendering directly to render an architecture environment. This kind of design is based on vertices and polygons, which is mainly used in the design of simple and small architecture. The amounts of vertices and polygons in these scenes are fairly small .Moreover we take some measures to deal with the effect of different material textures, which makes the choosing of material in interior decoration more convenient.Then, we do some modeling for some architecture of some indoors, outdoors and a city scene with the aid of some special modeling software such as 3D Studio. We put these models into the OpenGL walkthrough program and add different walkthrough controls to them. We still do much progress in the optimization of the rendering.At last, we discuss simply the new technique of walkthrough in Image Based Virtual Architecture environment. Because of the lack of some special displaying and photographing devices, we can not accomplish this design for the time being. But this technology receives more and more attentions because of its high efficiency in virtual scenes modeling.The creative work of this paper can be seen in the chapter 6.
