Millimeter-wave (MMW) is widely used in military and communication systems for its outstanding advantages. Millimeter-wave power source plays a key role in millimeter-wave systems. It is most important to develop millimeter-wave solid-state power sources of small volume, light weight, and high reliability.With 8mm MMW integrated circuit , a power amplifier (PA) is successfully developed in my project, an researching project of "Ten-Five" . Problems such as the difficulties in devices of small volumes designing and manufacturing caused by high frequency and short wavelength are solved. And critical techniques like Ka waveband solid-state circuit designing and structure machine designing are mastered. Finally, our 8mm PA has an output power level of 25.6dBm, a 11.5-dB power gain and 13.1% power-added efficiency (PAE), which meet our design requirements.Based on the development of the 8mm PA, the system output power level is then increased by applying power-combining techniques. The 3-dB bridge of low loss, which is the vital part in improving power combining efficiency, is different from Wilkinson bridge. It features usage in high performance power division and combining networks with the usual dielectric materials, as well as low loss, no need for resistant material, and simple fabrication technology. And the test results indicated that the power combiners is feasible .At 35GHz test, we got a saturated power of 28.4dBm, 9-dB power gain and a power-combining efficiency higher than 80%. If the fabrication technology is improved , further increment of combining efficiency can be expected. Moreover, obtain of the high efficiency two-way power combining lays a firm foundation for multilevel combining. |
