This dissertation is about the project of Self-Organized Wireless Mobile Networking Technology and Experimental System Development, a project of the National High-Tech Research and Development Program of China. The Self-Organized Wireless Mobile Network (SOWMN) is a new type of wireless communication network. Different from the traditional single-hop Ad Hoc network, SOWMN is capable of self-organization and multi-hop routing, as well as its capability of mobile user management and tracing. With reference to the BS/MS architecture of GSM system, the network nodes and user nodes are explicitly distinguished in SOWMN's architecture. The network functions of self-organization, dynamic routing and user management are all completed in the network nodes and the details of network structure are hidden to mobile users, so the burden of network devices and their implementation complexity are distinctly alleviated while the SOWMN system still has an excellent compatibility with existing IP networks and wireless terminals according with IEEE802.11 standard.Design of the Kernel Tree Routing Protocol of SOWMN is the main part of this dissertation. KTR is a dynamic wireless routing protocol based on the tree structure. The complicated topology of wireless network is abstracted to a tree structure in KTR while the dynamic routes are created on the basis of discovery and maintenance of neighbor relationships and mobile users' positions. KTR tries to reduce broadcast packets and restrict the needed advertisements in a limited subset of the whole network to save a considerable network resource. It is first introduced that what the SOWMN's architecture is and what are required by routing. Then it gives a snapshot of some typical Ad Hoc routing protocols. The principals of these protocols and the design of KTR are elaborated as the main part of this dissertation. All the completed work described here plays an important role in KTR's research. It has made a preparation for the implementation of the whole experimental system together with hardware platform, link layer driver and user authentication management work groups.
