For many years, people are thinking of ways to connect wireless devices to the wireless network and get the information and service needed. But there are some technique problems. Because the mobile device contrasted by desktop has limited CPU power and memory, small screen and input device. At the mean time, wireless network has low bandwidth, low predictability and high latency. The origination of Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) would come to June 1997. Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola and Wireless Planet organized together, and named the group with WAP forum. Its main effort is to bring the huge information and advance technologies of Internet to wireless devices. And its goal is to define a set of protocols that can adapt to vary types of wireless technologies.Wireless Application Environment, as the core of the WAP is an interoperable application framework that will allow operators and service providers to build application and services that can reach a lot of different wireless platforms in an efficient and useful manner.WAP is continuously evolving and converging with existing Internet technologies to match the current and emerging wireless information service requirements. As an important component of WAP, WAE is changing as well. At different time, the environment around WAP has different characteristics, thus WAP does as well. And we can see the difference in the WAE specifications, technologies and methods of implementation.By contrast to older version, WAP 2.0 puts focus on the convergence with Internet technologies and directly reaching to the Internet resources by the wireless device. WAE micro browser now integrates more kinds of User Agents, and can support more MIME media types. The goal of the WAE micro browser is to converge the HTTP withWSP protocol stack, and supports many kinds of URI schemes, and adopts XML parser to parse the pages written in XHTML Basic, WML, CHTML, etc. The browser implements an efficient DOM API. And it provides security support to protect the privacy of the end users and the information transmitted through the network. By the way, it adopts CSS, Script and VM to enhance the presentation of the markup languages. On the basis of the application framework, it can provide many kinds of services such as information browsing and navigation and give end users a more colorful wireless world. In this article, the author introduces WAP 1.X Specification first. And then briefly describes the architecture and the application status of WAP 2.0 Specification. On the basis of detail description of WAP 2.0 WAE Specification, the author comes up with the requirements of implementation of the new micro browser conforming to the new specification. In the following, the focus of the article is on the design and implementation of the micro browser TTG 2.0.
