The power supply is the most important part of plasma heat-treating. For a long time, dc power supply has been widely used although it has the shortages as large power dissipation and serious effect of the hollow cathode so on. In 1980's, pulsing dc power supply was developed. Pulsing dc power supply can solve some questions but still cannot satisfy the reality requirements. Compared with pulsing dc power supply, power supply with inverter has some merits such as easy control, low dissipation, small volume and high frequency. Today, the power supply with inverter is becoming more and more popular in heat-treating system.This paper discusses the difficulty and importance of the 100kW power supply with inverter used in plasma heat-treating, and proposes a preferable design project. The power supply includes: rectification mechanism that composed of SCR; inverter mechanism that composed of IGBT, transformer and ultra fast recovery diode; Control mechanism that composed of 80C196KC ; LCD and keyboard circuit.The experimental results verify that the output voltage of the power system can satisfy the demands of heat-treating; the power dissipation is low; the control of cutting off arc discharge is quickly and credibly.
