System BIOS technology serves as the low-level key technology which directly manipulates the hardware equipments of a computer. Pruning system BIOS properly and speeding up the boot procedure of the BIOS play an important role in embedded applications which need strict limit of time.Incorporated with the project " Embedded computer special software", this paper mainly analyzes the system BIOS at first, implements the pruning, addition and modification to the modules of system BIOS, and studies the startup procedure of Linux and the integration technology into DiskOnChip of it.In order to gain the fast boot of embedded system BIOS, this paper also analyzes the overall function and structure of embedded 486 system BIOS, especially focuses upon the implement of POST and bootstrap procedure. Combined with the characteristic of embedded system BIOS, three projects related with embedded system BIOS are researched. On the basis above, we propose the actual scheme of pruning system BIOS, and manifest the feasibility of the scheme through many experiments. In addition, we discuss the existing development and debug platform of system BIOS, present one compromise and summarize some flexible and effective debug methods.On the premise of that the original function and performance of the BIOS are kept up, we complete the addition of the module of system BIOS. According to the requirements, the assembly language code to display Logo flag is added. Fast speed is considered during the decompression and display of the image. The experimental result demonstrates its effectivity.In order to construct complete embedded system and application, Linux operating system is selected as software platform. This paper discusses the boot procedure of Linux, concludes and compares the two methods to integrate Linux into DiskOnChip, and prepares for further embedded application based on special platform.
