The invention of automobile has a history of 100 years. It has promoted the development of human society greatly and brought many conveniences to human beings. But there is an austere fact emerging with the increasing of automobile's amount, that is, thousands of vehicles emit much noxious contamination which has already destroyed the environment. Also, the polluted air is badly endangering the health of the residents. So reducing the pollution of exhaust gas has already been a very necessitous question which arouses more and more attention in modern society.Exhaust Gas Oxygen sensor (EGO) which is installed in the exhaust pipe of the engine is a significant component in the electronic fuel injection. It has the ability to probe the concentration of oxygen in the exhaust pipe, and can transfer concentration signal to voltage signal which is passed to electronic control unit (ECU). In this way the air-fuel ratio can be controlled to the strait range of stoichiometrical point and the three-way catalytic converter consequently can work better. So the purpose of applying oxygen sensors to keep feedback is to fulfill electronic fuel injection and solve the contradiction among power, oil-consumption, and exhaust pollution.Foreign countries have begun to research EGO and put it into use since 1970's, and their products nowadays have come into well-rounded moment. However, in our country, though the pollution question has become more and more attentive and achieved greatly progress in this aspect, most of research work is only settled in the phase of laboratory research because we enter the field of EGO later than other countries, therefore there is no such corporations that can manufacture oxygen sensors in batches and has independent knowledge property right in our country. The EGO markets are mainly held by Co. BOSCH, DELPHI.With the development of automobile industry our demand for this product is become larger and larger. Investigation showed that the requirement amount for oxygen sensors will reach 3 million and the number will increase by 30%-50% every year also. So the project of research EGO has great signification in such aspects as increasing the competitive ability of automobile industry, creating economy benefit as so on.In this paper, the research and development of the EGO are studied. The experiment research of the mechanical property, the electrical property, and the aging property are carried out. We can get the conclusion by the contrast with foreign products.There are six chapters in this thesis. In the first chapter, the research backgrounds and introduced, the development, and function of EGO. In the second chapter, the structure and basic theory of the EGO are introduced. In the third chapter, the exploitation and design of the EGO are expounded. In the forth chapter, the important parts of the EGO are simulated by ANSYS software in order to get the optimized result. In the fifth chapter, evaluating-tests are dwelled on .Experiment data are analyzed in order to evaluate the excellences or disadvantages of the EGO. The last chapter is the summary, in which, the main results are given, and also some further study are presented.A reasonable method is carried out for the design of the EGO in the present work. It is: (1) Optimizing the selected material and structure of the EGO. (2) Simulating the design of important parts of the EGO with ANSYS software. (3) Performing the experiment on mechanical property, the electrical property, and the aging property of the EGO. The evaluated-result can be got by compared with foreign products. These works can ensure that the products enter market.The research results in the present work are:(1) The EGO is designed and produced according to the technical requests.(2) The design of the important parts is optimized with ANSYS software then getting the optimized design method.(3) The general properties the electrical property are evaluated by experiments.Its' steplike-voltage is 450mV.
