The Design & Implementation of Multi-protocol Conversion Module for Short Message Gateway " is initiated by Nokia China Investment Corporation (NCIC) in order to meet the technical requirements mandated by Chinese Telecomm, when introducing Nokia Artuse SMSC into China market. In its design, object oriented methods are employed from the very beginning of this project and run through all the phases: Unified Modeling Language is used to set up class diagram, which consists of three major parts - boundary classes, entity classes and control classes, during the period of system analysis and design; in addition, all source codes are implemented by the popular object oriented programming language ?C++. Furthermore, client-server paradigm is applied when dealing with traditional part of network socket programming. Finally, the deployment of this module is made on a Hewlett Packard L/K series Enterprise server upon which HP-UX 11.00 operating system is installed. On its completion, the module as a whole can act as a PDU (Protocol Data Unit) converter between CIMD2(C_omputer Interface to Message Distribution) and SMPP(Short Message Peer to Peer) protocol. The design and implementation of this module can not only provide a uniform interface (SMPP protocol interface) to all 3rd party software developers and conceal underlying complicated mechanism from its end-user, but also greatly simplify tasks of short message related software programming, moreover, reduce software production cost and improve efficiency of software development.
