Three dimensional range image techniques are at a important evolutionary stage in industry countries in terms of applications such as nondestructive testing,reverse virtual reality,vehicle auto avoidance and target identification in military. They have the potential to improve these intelligent systems' ability to acquire environmental information.This paper introduce the fundamental principle of three dimensional range imaging techniques and their receive system based on correlative phase discriminator. In this paper we also provide some experimental results to prove the feasibility of three dimensional range imaging,the reliability of correlative phase discriminator based on CCD,the practicability of range image receive system based on MCP image intensifier and the improvements of the system.This paper can be divided into five parts. In the first part,we summarized several three dimensional imaging techniques' characteristics and made a compare among them. In the second part,the discussion focused on the principle of sine wave and square wave correlative phase discrimination principle. In the third part we analyzed the performance of this system's key devices,such as MCP image intensifier,CCD image device,digital signal processor. In the forth part we thoroughly introduce the design items of the receive system. In the fifth part,we provide some experimental results for testing the system and analyzed its error.
