Based on the analysis of the manufacturing process of injection mold parts and the cardinal principles of CAPP, this paper has researched and developed the CAPP for injection mold. Process-template and process-case are presented in this paper, which are employed as the methods of CAPP for injection mold.The first work of the paper is to build an injection mold parts classification and coding system, which is founded on the classification of injection mold parts by their structures, functions and machining features. This classification and coding system can express all of the information for different stages as design, process planning, machining, etc., including geometry information, machining information and management information.According to the characteristics of process planning for non-molding parts, process-template is proposed to design the manufacturing process of non-molding parts. And common non-molding parts' process-templates are built on the basis of technologic experience summarized from the current process planning.The approach adopted in this paper to resolve the difficulty of process design of molding parts is based on process-case. The process-case and its matching mechanism are characterized by the synthesis of the features of molding part and plastic product. The calculation of similarity between the two process-cases is also provided.Finally, an injection mold CAPP system developed for process planning of injection mold parts, which applies the above theories, is given. The architecture design and the process of programming are introduced in this paper. The development and pilot application of this software show that the CAPP system for injection mold can fulfill the task of system integration, process management and process design in mold enterprises, and it is an effective solution to process planning for injection mould parts.
