AbstractFractal image processing technique is widely applied in compression coding, region increasing, pattern recognition and so on. The mechanism of fractal image processing is simply recommended in this paper, and at the same time, the mathematical and theoretical fundament of fractal image processing are carefully analyzed and discussed. Then a deep research on fractal image processing is done from the following two parts. (1) Based on the basic theory of data compression and the correlated standards, the fractal image compression is studied deeply from the defect of fractal coding. Considered of human visual properties, firstly, a fast fractal image coding based on visual error measure is proposed. In this coding scheme, the fundamental principle of fractal coding is studied. Experimental results show that compared with traditional fractal coding method, the fractal image coding is speeded up and decoded images have better subjective quality using this approach. Secondly, fractal image processing is combined with Rough Set for the first time and two new methods are proposed in this paper. One is the adaptive fractal image compression based on Rough Set, the other is the fractal image compression on Rough Set & region growing. It has been indicated by the theoretical analysis and test proof that the fractal coding methods combined with RS are satisfactory, and superior to traditional methods. (2) Some research on the template matching method based on Iterated Function System is done, and the similar theorem and its inference for measuring the approach degree of search image and template based on Hausdorff distance between EPS attractors are given.
