Orthogonal Multi-wavelet Transform And Its Applications In Coding Image Compression

Multiwavelets are a new addition to body of wavelet theory. Multiwavelets offer simultaneous orthogonality, symmetry, and short support, which is not possible with scalar 2 hannel wavelet system. Firstly, this paper gives an overview of multiwavelet theory. And then, we apply multiwavelet filter banks in image compression, Using two method(new vector quantization algorithm and improvement EZW). In many experiments multiwavelets perform better than the scalar ones. A further development of the theory and applications is needed.
