It is known that ATM is the transmission and switching technology in the broadband integrated services digital network (B-ISDN), it can provide all the existing telecommunication services , such as low speed circuit switch traffics. packet data traffic, multimedia services, etc., and provide the possible services in the future by using the same network techniques. In order to realize the gapless B-ISDN so that the mobile subscribers can be served, people have researched and designed some broadband wireless corimunjcation networks based on the ATM. There are several architectures of broadband wireless communication networks based on the ATM, among which the cellular broadband wireless conmunication networks is the most popular but complexity one. it must support some mobility. We focus on it in this article. The essential ideal of the broadband wireless communication networks is to make mobile users completely combined with the bone wire network based on :he ATM, such as B-ISDN. This demands that the ATM cells must be t:ansferred on the air interface. The network architecture discussed fri this article is fully based on the ideal. We design and analyze the p:oposed scheme by simulation on workstation. We use Block Oriented Network Simulator (BONeS) to model and simulate the ~vireless ATM network. We can get the GOS, throughput, delay, cell loss rate, etc.. from this model. This article consists of five chapters. Firstly, in chapter 1, we briefly describe the wireless ATM technique and its evolution, as well as our focus in this article. In chapter 2, we briefly describe the wireless ATM simulation system. including system architecture, the realization of the system, related protocols and algorithm in the system. In chapter 3, we introduce BONeS DESIGNER simulation model, including the system framework, execution process, system simulation parameters, data ii ) ill structures. Chapter 4 describes the main modules in details, which consists of seven sections. Chapter 5 presents eight simulations and their results. In the end, creativeness and related conclusions in our study are stressed.
