Our society is still a men-centered society. Traditionai role-stereotypes such as men senior to women~ men superior to women~ men major to women is still deeply rooted in people抯 minds and society抯 phenomenon. As carriers of social consciousness, mass communication media are inevitable to exist contents of gender discrimination obviously or obscurely. Being communicated by mass communication media, these contents will intensity role-stereotype in people抯 minds and gender division of labor in society, which is unfavorable to women抯 ernanci鏰tion and development. It抯 unfavorable men抯 and society抯 emancipation and development, too. Therefore, deeply digging into the expression of gender discrimination in mass communication media and analyzing its reasons is of great importance to raise people抯 sensitivity to gender discrimination in mass communication media and to strive to take measures to eradicate th~m, so that clear away obstacles for women抯 and the whole mankind抯 eman ~ipation. The thesis is divided into four parts. The preface defines the connotation of gender discrimination. The first part lists expressions of gender discrimination in mass communication media. This part expounds expressions of gender discrimination in news re~)orting~ advertising~ film-TV playing from aspects such as neglecting women抯 development intensifying traditional role- stereotype, exaggerating the importance of women抯 beauty, implying traditional virginity idea, hiding the idea of women-are-bale, women being commercialized. Finally, it also briefly introduces the state of gender discrimination in international mass communication media. The second part mainly analyses the reasons of gender discriniination in mass communication V media. It holds that Mass communication media抯 existing phenomenon of gender discrimination firstly traces back to the lose and being commercialized in history of thousands of years. Although since the Industrial Revolution, women started to fight continuously and arduously in order to win over rights of being human being and equality, and have gained certain success, side effect of mass culture has been intensifying traditional role-stereotype and labor division in order to earn economic benefits, which is mainly realized through mass communication media. Besides, the existing developing level of society and human being also restricts people抯 gender idea. The third part tentatively puts forward measures to eradicate gender discrimination in mass communication media. It holds that gender discrimination in mass communication media is reflection of gender discrimination in society. To eradicate gender discrimination in society needs the elimination of private ownership, the development of productive forces, the perfection of policies and lows and regulations, the improvement of women抯 quality. During the course, mass communication media should and can have bright prospects: they should help people recognize harm of gender discrimination, should arm staff with Marxist women idea, should give free rein to women journalists?abilities, should lay down news law and related caws and regulations to forbid gender discrimination in news media by laws and regulations.
