It is prerequisite to measure the three-dimensional braided composite materials preform s technical parameters in the process of its design and production. It is shown to be of major significance to the quality guarantee and property analysis of the composite materials preform that design a measuring system, which can measure and analyze its thickness accurately and quickly.This paper presents a method of using magnetic sensor to measure the thickness of carbon fiber three-dimensional braided composite materials preform which is based on the materials permeability and conductivity. According to the idea, the system equipment is established, the data of experiments is gathered, the system proves feasible and the irregularity index is analyzed. This system also proves to be a measurement of glass fiber three-dimensional braided composite materials preforms.The method this paper discussed is an innovatory of the universal thickness measurement. These research results will help filling in a gap in this field and provide the basis for the study of mechanical capacity and producing the three-dimensional braided composite materials preform accurately.
