Design And Implementation Of GPU Pixel Engine

With the spread of various of amusement equipments and date processing equipment, 3D graphic technique has gradually been used in all kinds of fileds.Because 3D graphic arithmetic is too complicated, the graphics software can’t meet the need of real time application by only using CPU, it is necessary to improve the graphics capability by using a special graphics hardware GPU. At present, the domestic GPU market has almost been monopolized by foreign companies, our independent GPU development is still in its initial stage, so we need to make a investigation for GPU. Pixel Engine is a very important component of GPU, and it has a direct effect on the quality of output pictures and the speed of pixel processing, therefore pixel engine research has an important significance for the investigation for demostic GPU.Based on the analyses of the development GPU graphic pipeline and the research situation of the Pixel Engine at home and abroad, And this paper introduces the major function of Pixel Engine, and designs two pipelines for 2D and 3D graphic processing. This paper researches the arithmetic of GPU serious and puts forward a data prefetching arithmetic for pixel engine, which prefetching data by discriminating whether Cache hit occurs or whether the first hit.This paper designs the function module by Verilog HDL, including alpha test, stencil test, depth test and alpha blend and so on.At Last, this paper does simulation for the function module by vcs of Synopsys and validates the function of pixel engine on Quad E Virtex-7 TAI Logic Module development and verification platform of S2 C corporation.The verification result indicates that Pixel Engine can complete all the function of domestic GPU Pixel Engine, it has met the design requirements.
