In the design of long distance oil and gas transmission pipeline, pipeline route selection is an important content. Choose a reasonable pipeline route is the premise and foundation of pipeline construction. The route selection has an important significance in saving investment, improve the quality of project, environment protect, promoting the development of social economy and other aspects. Through optimizing the pipeline route, more scientific decision can be made, and reasonable reference for designers to make pipeline route scheme can be provided.Oil and gas pipeline route selection is a complex multi-objective decision making process. To make a comprehensive decision, many factors like engineering, safety and economy have to be considered. At the present time, the main consideration of route selection is the mandatory requirements on route from design specifications, but few consideration about the economy is taken.In order to meet the mandatory requirements, and at the same time optimize the route of pipeline from the economic aspect, the cost calculation model of pipeline is established. The model is based on the actual situation of oil and gas pipeline routing, and a variety of influence factors in the work are converted to the mandatory constraint that restrict the route directly or the cost constraint.In this paper, genetic algorithm is taken as the optimization method for a good adaptability for the optimization problem with complex constraints. The basic theory of genetic algorithm is combined with the principle and method in oil and gas pipeline route designing. The basic strategy and implementation method are proposed about using genetic algorithm in the pipeline route optimization. A preliminary exploration on the application of genetic algorithm in the optimization of oil and gas pipeline routing is made.According to the basic principle of genetic algorithm, a coding scheme adapt to pipeline route optimization, the constraints handling methods, the basic strategy and realization for operators like selection, crossover, mutation are designed, and related program is written. The experiments show that in oil and gas pipeline route optimization, genetic algorithm can be a feasible and reasonable method, route schemes meeting the requirements can be generated according to the relevant constraints.
