With the rapid development of communication and multimedia technology, the means of access to information is no longer limited to text and images, while the demand for high-quality video services is growing.However, the current transmission network,data storage technology can not meet the huge amount of high-quality video.So video coding compression algorithm is becoming the key to solve this problem. International Telecommunication Union and the International Organization for Standardization has developed a series of video coding standards,while the H.264coding standard is widely used in the present,as the core content to improve the video coding efficiency,Motion estimation algorithm is the hot point in The compression technology of frequency coding in current times.This paper describes the H.264video coding standard and the basic theory of motion estimation algorithms:block-matching algorithm is studied.Then for asymmetric multi-layered hexagonal grid search algorithm (UMHexagonS algorithm) H.264standard algorithm is used in-depth research carried out and on the basis of suggestions for improvement in the following two aspects:the initial search template and the threshold jump modifications to improve, and multi-layered hexagonal cross template templates of turn.On the pc platform we uses the H.264standard test model JM12.4simulation, through the multi-codec video sequence,the improved algorithm proposed in ensuring the distortion and bit rate performance is essentially the same premise,the average encoding time reduced by27%, the coding efficiency is greatly improved.
