Multi-beam antenna has been widely applied in the field of space exploration, wireless communication, radar and navigation because of its wide coverage, high gain, and low cost. A series of works and research aim at the engineering application of KU band multi-beam antenna have been accomplished in this article. The main work is as follows:Firstly, a brief review of the research background was elaborated. And then the paper presents the advanced investigation of the development of multi-beam antenna. Besides, a usual technique employed in multi-beam antenna, SIW, has been introduced.Secondly, on the basis of these theories and techniques mentioned above, a Ku band SIW-based linear polarization multi-beam antenna was designed and the radiation theory of SIW-based slot antenna, the design of a linear polarization standing-wave slotted antenna array were introduced respectively.In combination with Defocusing principle on the reflective surface of optics engineering, reflection characteristics of parabola and effects on the phase distribution of reflected waves of different defocusing position were researched and analyzed separately. With all the research mentioned above, a multi-beam antenna network with the implementation of different beam deflection and the effects of various parameters on network performance were designed and investigated respectively. Finally, A linear polarization multi-beam antenna at Ku band was designed with the integration of SIW slot antenna array and multi-beam network.A circular polarization multi-beam antenna was developed and completed on the basis of the linear polarization multi-beam antenna mentioned above. Synthesis of circular polarization low side lobe traveling wave array was investigated emphatically. Simulation of the effect of multi-beam network on the performance of the whole multi-beam antenna was carried out. The circular polarization antenna was fabricated. Measurement agrees well with the simulation which validate the feasibility of the design method.In order to implement the omni-directional scanning of the conformal carrier, a conformal multi-beam antenna array at Ku band based on switch cutover was designed finally. Broad band performance of several slot antennas was investigated. Proposal of the E-face slot patch antenna was adopted. Also procedure and design essentials of power divided network was elaborated. The simulation and fabrication of the conformal antenna array were accomplished respectively. Measurement meet the design requirements well.
