As the influence of Internet growing, it is becoming more and more normal for the public to use it to collect information and express opinion.When some social changes occur, online discussion has thrusted the propagation of the event and the gathering of public opinions. Since then, taking the event about selfie in operating room as a case, this article mainly focuses on the gathering and expanding of the public opinion on the Internet by using the aesthetic theory of reception.Firstly, this article overviewed the aesthetic theory of reception and the studies of public opinion on the Internet. Secondly, it concretely analysed the event about selfie in operating room and based on this, summaried the reception characteristics of the subject of the public opinion.Thirdly, according to these characteristics, this article offered some possible methods of guiding public opinion on the Internet. Throughing analysis, the author thought that the exist of dualism and incomplete information under network environment gives potential tension to the public opinion. Different subjects try to fill the blanks with their self experiences in accepting, and this increased the uncertainty of information. Restricted by the groups, the subjects constantly decode new information, so as to strengthen or questioning the opinion. Based on the analysis, this article puts forward on that, in the guidance of public opinion on the Internet, we should provide a wealth of information to eliminate misunderstanding and promote the transition of rational thinking by optimizing the group environment. At the same time, the media should add new information flow frequency to satisfy the audiences’expectations.Under the perspective of aesthetic theory of reception, this article regards the public opinion on the Internet as a narrative to interpret. Mainly analyzing from the perspective of the audiences, it tries to offer some proposals to guide the public opinion on the Internet. On one hand, it enriches the application of aesthetic theory of reception in the field of journalism and communication, on the other hand, it is also instructive for the study of public opinion transmission from the perspective of other disciplines.
