With progress of computer graphics technologies, computer games get rapid development worldwide and have become one important form of entertainment. Traditional computer games usually use mouse/keyboard as input devices and monitor/TV as output devices. These computer games offer small size display and narrow field of view while their interaction experience is not natural enough. Players do not have strong immersive experience in these kinds of games. Immersive games based on multi-projector display technology and somatosensory interaction technology provide a high immersion of visual experience and interactive experience.Immersive games based on multi-projector display technology usually occupy large physical spaces, allowing multiple players playing in same locations simultaneously. Multiplayer games provide rich gaming strategies of competition and cooperation between players and therefore bring players more pleasure. Large size immersive entertainment projects for theme parks need to support dozens of players to play in same locations to increase throughput capacity. Supporting multiplayer in immersive games has important research value and actual demand.Compared to traditional computer games, construction technologies of immersive games are not mature. The existing immersive games have shortcomings in aspect of visual immersion and multiplayer interaction. We design an immersive multiplayer shooting game prototype with first person viewpoint. It employs multi-projector display technology, somatosensory interaction technology, multimedia effect, animation along with virtual camera to improve the immersive experience of players. One distributed device driver is designed to support concurrent use of dozens of interaction devices. Moreover, the game combines main camera path and special camera motions to realize an automatic camera control mechanism. We research key technologies listed below and provide solution to construct an immersive multiplayer shooting game.●Game framework. We provide software and hardware architecture of immersive multiplayer shooting game, including organization of hardware, software modules.●Human-computer interaction. We choose a kind of bluetooth somatosensory interaction device to realize the nature human-computer interaction. In order to realize multiplayer interaction, we design a distributed device driver to support concurrent use of dozens of interaction devices.●Virtual camera control. We combine main camera path and special camera motion to realize an automatic camera control mechanism that brings players stereo visual impact by animations along with virtual camera.Based on researches above, we construct a game prototype system and perform experiments on this game prototype system to measure performance of distributed device driver, response speed of multimedia effect device and impact of animations along with virtual camera on game performance. Experiment results illustrate that this game prototype system has a good system performance and gaming experience.
