Abstract/Summary:
Electron multiplying CCD (EMCCD), with high-speed reading capability, is a kind of low light level imaging device. In order to achieve its high-speed reading capability, it is necessary to equip a high-speed data transmission channel in the EMCCD camera. USB3Vision standard, used for high-speed image data transmission, is released by Automated Imaging Association (AIA) in early2013. The standard defines the camera behavior when working on the USB3.0bus and tells us how to use the USB3.0interface.According to the characteristics of high-speed readout EMCCD and the USB3Vision standard, we present a kind of EMCCD cameras high-speed data transmission system based on USB3.0. The paper briefly introduces design of EMCCD cameras high-speed data transmission system, which is based on the standard. Then it focuses on transmission system and image acquisition software. The transmission system is constructed by transplanting an old EMCCD camera digital controller and designing a new USB3controller with VHDL in Quartus II. The USB3controller is used to generate read-write timing and other logic signals the USB3014required, to output simulation images and to convert data transmission format according to the USB3Vision standard. The image acquisition software is programmed with C++, in which some API (application programming interface) functions provided by CYPRESS are utilized.After the hardware and software of transmission system are constructed, we carry out several experiments to verify the transmission system. The image acquisition software can download the configurable firmware for the USB3014, display the device information, set the ADC parameters, and capture a single frame or many frames continuously, save the images automatically or manually, and so on. A measured bit error rate of the system is less than7.28×10-13on the condition of transmission line length1.5meters and the transmission rate less than266MByte/s. These experimental results show that the developed transmission system meets the requirements of EMCCD camera system transmission speed, and its bit error rate is also in line with the USB communication demands.The research works related in this thesis are supported by the Joint Found of Astronomy of Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Chinese Academy of sciences (CAS)(Grant No.10978013).
