High speed camera can capture quick phenomenon that is difficult to identify and becatched by human eyes, such as spark triggering instant, high-speed object motion andmilitary experiment. It is an indispensable equipment for scientific research and engineeringapplications. However, existing high speed cameras based on single viewpoint have somedisadvantages as follows: high-speed-caused low imaging quality, high price, narrowproduction scope, difficult purchasing and long development cycle. That cannot meet thedemand of various application fields.In this paper, using the distributed triggering of multi-camera array, a high frame ratevideo recording technique based on multi-camera array is practiced and formed availableimage collection prototype system.The working principle of camera array high frame rate video system is discussed, anavailable camera array is built with Bumblebee BBX3stereoscopic system produced by PointGrey Research in Canada, and the camera array video recording is purchased by pulse-triggersupporting image acquisition card.Positive discoveries of camera array calibration technique have been made: a. Anavailable flexible target is designed as new calibration target which has increased number offeature point without changing the size of target to raise the calibration quality. The extractionscheme and experimental results of feature point are also given. b. For calibration algorithm,based on conventional camera model, considering radial distortion, eccentric distortion andthin prism distortion, iterative algorithm of least square method is used to solve the optimalsolution of calibration equations, which is the calibration parameter. c. The correspondingrelation between the image plane of target camera and reference camera is built according tothe calibration parameter and the characteristics of stereo vision, get ready for high frame ratevideo composition.Knowing about color space transform theory and common color correction method, acubic b-spline based color correction method is proposed. It collects color information ofcorresponding color block by matching it in the color template image of target camera andreference camera, builds feature color table, constructs reverse cubic b-spline as colorresponse function curve, to correct color. Cubic b-spline close to the real situation better thanthe mapping method of common color correction method due to its smoothness, andcomparing to the color correction algorithm of BP neural network basis color correction algorithm, it has advantages of small calculation amount, low complexity and shortimplement time.After the prophase work such as camera calibration and color correction, the operationsoftware subsystem is designed using the algorithm mentioned above. Several experimentshave been done in proper environment, the array calibration and color correction is verified,and high frame rate is achieved in actual recording. The experiments show the availability ofthe high frame rate video recording solution proposed. This solution can reduce the cost ofhigh frame rate video recording, and widen the application range. It is a high frame rate videorecording solution of convenience, low cost and high performance.
