The relationship between media and government of capitalist countries formed from the birth of the news media, the relationship between the U.S. government and news media also formed from the early days of the United States. From the partisan media stage to the commercial media stage, then the objective media stage, then the interpretative media stage to the different but concentrated media stage, the relationship between the U.S. government and media had been evolving.American news media affected the birth of government, which largely reflected in the election of president. American news media influenced the operation of the government, mainly in the Congressional legislation, policy development, supervision of policy implementation and judicial conduct. The protection of U.S. government to the news media is mainly embodied in the "the First Amendment" of Constitution, which protected the freedom of the news media .The U.S. president also respected its freedom. The control for the news media from U.S. government was still reflected in the partisan news media, in the highly consistency facing national interest between each other. In the "unusual period", the government would strictly control the media and its press freedom. In fact, the U.S. government and the news media did not simply control and influence one or other, but game for the interest. From the contest between a national newspaper and local officials, and the media revealed the president for the maintenance of justice, we could see that there must be a final compromise. After the vertical and horizontal introduction of the relationship between the U.S. government and news media, I also put forward some thoughts to it: the government should deal the relationship with news media basing on the principles of offering service and cooperation, and the news media should assume more functions to share the responsibility of democracy with the government.
