By conservative estimate, approximately 80 percent of all data stored and maintained by businesses around the world have a location component. Location information can be valuable to an organization in multiple ways. The barriers between spatial data and mainstream information were broken benefit from the development from geographic information systems to spatial database. The value-added spatial information can be greatly utilized. Application of location information technology will undoubtedly be the next hot spot.Business Intelligence (BI) is the IT field and business hot issue currently. Main BI vendors gradually realize the importance of location information. Leveraging the power of location intelligence to enhance business intelligence solutions is increasingly being selection of all business.MapInfo is the only vendor in Location Intelligence software market. It supplys both the enterprise MapInfo Exponare solution and Location Intelligence Component (LIC) plug-ins for different BI vendors such as LIC for Business Objects (BO),LIC for MicroStrategy (MSTR),Mapping Solutions for Cognos. There is no MapInfo solution for Oracle BI nor Microsoft BI. The lack of location intelligence solution will definitely be the great pain points for both of these two vendors. This thesis analyses the necessity and feasibility of the integration between BI and location information. It also discusses the basic steps to achieve this. Reference to the existing solutions, it presents and implements an integrated solution of Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (Oracle BIEE) and Oracle Database Spatial Option to leverage the power of location information in enterprise business intelligence system.I believe that this thesis will not only be helpful to Oracle developers, but also, it can be some reference for other developers when they need to conduct such kind of integration solution. I do hope that, one day the location intelligence can be a real mature, out-of-box software product.
