In recent years Low-Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (LTCC) technology has become one of the researching centers of millimeter-wave integrated circuits, because it has shown several advantages such as small size and high reliability in millimeter-wave band. Due to the trend of the frequency synthesizer is low phase noise and small size, hence the frequency synthesis technology adopting LTCC technology is one way to reduce the volume of the frequency synthesizer. In this thesis the relations between the phase noise of the output signal and the loop filters and the noise characteristics of all building blocks have been analyzed through building the phase noise model of PLL. And a broad band LTCC filter and its improved filter and a pin LTCC filter have been designed separately. The advantages and disadvantages of several mixed frequency synthesizing configurations have been analyzed. The scheme of PLL based on the phase noise model of PLL with fractional N division and then mixing and then doubling has been adopted in order to achieve low phase noise and high frequency resolution simultaneously which are the demands of the object, the LO of the mixer was provided by a microwave PLL. A miniature low phase-noise mm-wave phase-locked frequency synthesizer integrated in an entire LTCC substrate in the first time has been achieved by combing the LTCC technology with the frequency synthesizing technology, laying the active elements on the surface and integrating the passive elements inside the substrate. The final test result demonstrates that the output frequencyof the Ka band LTCC frequency synthesizer covers 34.8GHz~35.2GHz with a minimal step of 2MHz. The measured phase noise of the output signal were better than -75dBc/Hz@1kHz,-80dBc/Hz@10kHz,-90dBc/Hz@100kHz in the whole output band. The area of this frequency synthesizer is only 42mm×49mm through proper arrangement. The area of this frequency synthesizer has been reduced 37% compared to reference[4], the volume of the whole system is 59×53×15 mm 3, the volume has been reduced 57% compared to reference[4], the weight of the whole system is 97g, the weight has been reduced 56% compared to reference[4].
