With the popularization and widespread application of computer,the virtual reality technology has been developing amazingly,which provides users the sense of verisimilitude. At the same time, the interaction of the virtual reality technology enables the user to modify parameters in real time,so various schemes and results can be analyzed in comparison.Moreover,users can gain the spatial and logical information comprehensively which the hypothesized environment contains.In order to quantificationally study the effect of the morphological and distributing characteristics and the regular pattern of USRS on soil corrosion control,and to support the assignment of soil protection theoretically and technologically,the virtual reality technology was employed in this research.In this paper, the morphological and distributing characteristics of the underground stem-roots of bamboo was analyzed in detail.taking the monopodial Yunnan bamboo as the objects of the study, through contrasting to some modelling methods for plant root systems, a three dimensional modelling method based on the geometrical modelling was proposed. In this way, topology and geometrical structure of underground stem-roots of bamboo were built,then the 3D geometrical structure of underground stem-roots of bamboo was dealed with by Rendering.At last,the three dimensional model of underground stem-roots of bamboo has been constructed based on OpenGL and VC++.Meanwhile,some computing methods,such as root length,root area, root volume etc,were present. Combined with this technique,using recursive algorithm and programming in the VC++,a system,which can simulate the growing process of underground stem-roots of bamboo with verisimilitude, was established.Taking the monopodial Yunnan bamboo as the experimental object, the research, by contrasting virtual and real data,has proved the validity and reliability of the system and veracity of the simulation model to a certain extent.In some scientific researches and production processes,the system contribute to obtains the morphological and distributing data and the related parameter of the underground stem-roots of bamboo in different periods with fewer parameter input.The dynamicity,controllability and visualization of the slope protection of the USRS have been enhanced.
