GIS is the basic platform to process spatial information, which is used widely in surveying, urban planning, military, logistics etc. In recent years, with the development of technology, GIS is used on PDA, cell phone and other embedded devices.Embedded GIS is a technology of GIS combining with embedded systems, which is a branche and extension, supplementary and development of the traditional GIS. With the development of hardware platform, multi-operating system, GPS applications and mobile Internet technology, embedded GIS have been increasingly and widely used in economic development and modernization of national defense.After many years development, GPS navigation market in China has entered a rapid development period, four satellites of Beidou satellite positioning system have launched successfully, to meet the demand of satellite positioning of China and its surrounding areas, then gradually developed into a global positioning system. By then, it will greatly promote the development of navigation and application in china.In this paper, starting from the embedded GIS theory and the current technology at home and abroad, introduced some knowledge of the embedded GIS system, including embedded GIS technology, embedded operating system, the structure of mobile GIS and eSupermap embedded GIS platform. Based on City transportation network, it mainly studied the road network model, map matching, the optimal path based on traffic rule, space location theory and technology.In the part of experimental, this paper combined with embedded geographic information systems, global positioning systems, software engineering theory and technology. Relying on city transport road network, design and develop a hand-held navigation information system based on embedded platform, to achieve the basic operation of map, city geospatial information querying, space measuring, optimum route analysis, mobile GPS positioning, street navigation and other functions. The development platform of this system is the eSuperMap of SuperMap, and complete the preparation of the program in the development environment of eMbedded Visual C++4.2, and it can run stablely in Microsoft platform of Windows CE 2003SE.Finally, this paper is focused on the system designation, module implementation and key technologies of embedded hand-held navigation information system. Based on the summary, it proposed the problems of this paper to provide the direction of research in future.
