The research of assortative mating has more than fifty years'history in western academic. The core question is whether the assortative mating is being undermined within the modernization process. Sociologists often from the homogamy point to analyze the assortative mating phenomenon. With the social and economic development, the improvement of women's education and continuous influx in labor market, the rising social status of women, all of these situations make scholars to have women's social mobility and patterns into account. This thesis investigates the homogamy trend of first marriage couples from different family background before and after the reform, and tries to explain the different trends factors. In this thesis, we use 2006 Chinese General Social Survey data to construct the log-multiplicative layer effect model. The model for the educational and occupational homogamy of total first marriage couples, the educational and occupational homogamy of first marriage couples from different family background in three historical times. Our finding is:(1) For the overall study of the first marriage couples, no matter with the educational and occupational homogamy, both of them have shown significantly enhanced trends. The analyzed data indicate that, with the deepening of the reform, the gradually improvement of market mechanism, the rowing differentiation of social resources, the increasing of class barrier gap, the whole class members reflect an enhancement trend of homogamy.(2) With the educational and occupational homogay, first marriage couples from different family background show slightly different trends. For the educational homogamy, within the deepening of reform, first marriage couples from urban non-manual workers'and urban laborers'family background's indicate a steady rise of homogay, but the homogay from rural family shows reducing in the Middle of the reform and the increasing significantly. For the occupational homogamy, within the deepening of reform, first marriage couples from rural family illustrate gradually increasing homogay, urban non-manual workers'and urban laborers'family background's show significantly growing in the Middle of reform and then maintain the level.
