Human Forms Of Social Organization On The "urban Community" As The Meaning And Value

Community is the starting point of human history, and also evolves with human history, which is the basic manifestation of the organized social life of human being. City is just a kind of organizing form to accommodate to the needs of human groups to live together. On the one hand, the emergence and development of city is so great a driving force to the change and evolution of human society, which is proved by the facts of history. On the other hand, city is increasingly becoming the center of the human activities and the main form of common human life, which is a noticeable trend indicate by the experience. In this paper, I take the perspective of "community" to investigate city and its development, then to dissert the intension and value of "City Community" as a kind of organizing form of human society.First, I define the meaning of "Community" and "city", and then propose the concept of "city community" and elaborate its intension. Second, I compare "state" and "city" as different levels of social political community. They have different features and orientations during their formation and development, show their organizational functions based on different logic. Through the comparison, as a kind of community, city has much closer contact with human life, shows the value of focusing on life itself. Third, I compare "Countryside" and "City" as different forms of geographical living community. They have different features of social space, and contain different modes of production and ways of life. Through the comparative analysis, the form of city shows more positive impact on both the individual and the human society as a whole. And city as community has great value for the establishment and enhancement of public life of human society, which is the most fundamental meaning compared with the form of countryside. After the comparative study, I try to research the internal law of the trend of city by analyzing it with the view of developing patterns of human society, to evaluate its significance on the standpoint of historical materialism. Finally, on the basis of all previous arguments, I further conclude that, as a kind of organizing form, "city community" has the value as a vision for the long-term development of human society, and also the value for the social reality of this contemporary world.
