As an important and traditional way of teacher training, mentoring has been widely used in primary and secondary schools. However, the discussion on mentoring is basically experiential and fragmentary. In this study, some new teachers and mentor teachers in two primary schools in Shanghai were invited to participate in the inquiry. Qualitative research methods, including semi-structured interviewing, documents and records analysis were employed.Firstly, this study reviewed the history of mentoring and then discussed the relationship between mentoring and the development of new teachers. The second chapter discussed how an efficient mentoring system was funded and the six core elements of a mentoring system were explained in this chapter one by one.The third chapter narrated the status of mentoring in two primary schools and the improvement suggestions were made in the end of the study.
