It is universally acknowledged that the English language plays a key role in the information age. Bilingual teaching means the use of two different languages in subject teaching, which has been adopted in many countries around the globe, including Canada and the United States, as well as in Europe. Quite a number of Asian countries are exploring the bilingual education system, mostly using English as the second language of communication besides their mother tongues. Bilingual education is not new in China. Colleges and universities across China launched bilingual education to meet the need for bilingual personnel after the country's accession to the World Trade Organization, city-wide bilingual education is highly promoted in Beijing, the host city for 2008 Olympiad and Shanghai, the host city for 2010 World Expo. A number of primary and secondary schools and even some kindergartens in Shanghai and Beijing have been teaching in English.Today, Shanghai is actively promoting "bilingual teaching" at its elementary and high schools, with significant breakthrough made and remarkable results achieved. To turn Shanghai into a world city or an international metropolis and keep up with the global trends, Shanghai's education authority worked out the first 10-year plan for the city's bilingual education. According to the plan, there should be 500 bilingual schools in Shanghai by 2010. The advocators believe that bilingual education will not only improve the students' oral English, but also improve their overall linguistic ability and enable them to think in English. The test mainly states the theory of bilingual teaching, the development of bilingual teaching in China, the comparison of the bilingual teaching in China and the bilingual education in the most foreign countries, the practice of bilingual biology teaching in China and the problems and strategies of bilingual teaching.
